Nonproprietary name

The official generic name assigned to a substance, distinct from the research-market name it is commonly sold under. The same molecule may appear as pralmorelin and GHRP-2, thymalfasin and thymosin alpha-1, ibutamoren mesylate and MK-677, or emideltide and DSIP. Regulatory documents use the nonproprietary name, which is often not the name on the vial.
